I am trying to configure a PC on my home network as a web
server. I can connect to the net with my own machine, but
the others in my house do not connect to the net. I am
using a proxy address of 195.195.3.1 (my home domain,
don't ask how many pc's I have, but I have one in the
bathroom as well!) My Network Server uses a domain with a
gateway of 195.195.3.3

I have set up the other machines to look for a proxy
server with port extentions of 8080, so why doesn't it
work - is there something else I should have set up?
I can't change the IP addressing as this suits my current
needs, but I can't also use the Microsoft Internet Sharing
wizard as it would use the default 192.168.0.1 as its
default gateway.

Just wondering if anyone has done this?

Regards, Simon Jenkins

Welcome to D-Link Network Solutions Center

1. Purchase one wireless internet router

2. Purchase wireless adapter cards for your other computers.

Thanks Nicolas, but I already have a Cat5e wired network
in my house and 10/100 Nic's as I transfer a lot of big
mpeg files and even if used the 54mbit a sec wireless
Nic's this would dramitically slow down the transfers.

I am after advice on how to set up my machine as an
internet server, but without changing any adresses.

Can you help? I am also looking to upgrade all the PC's
to gigabit ethernet as well, so maybe I could purchase
these from D-Link if you can help? I need more bandwidth
as I run my buisness from home and use CCTV images from
my clients (I am in the security buisiness).

Check your subnet masks....
255.255.255.0
if the one is pointing to the gateway of 195.195.3.3 then
thats your default gateway. port 8080 is your http service
or web browser services but it could also be used as port
80 call also.
so, home domain is a .3.1 and your proxy is x.x.3.3 so...
what addresses do you have left? assign them out as .3.4
etc, and use the proxy address of .3.3 unless your domain
controller is the gateway for the other hosts, then use
its .3.1 as their gateway??

I would suggest using a ip address tool, or learn to
subnet... I think this would help you..
