I recently bought a copy of Xp Pro which on the box said version 2002. I
noticed ones with version 2004 as well. Is this a slightly different
version or is it just Version 2002 with Sp2 slapped onto it?

Windows XP is Windows 2002.

I cannot say what Windows 2004 is - I would guess a misunderstanding or
perhaps the Tablet Edition (Although that shouldn't be fore sale at a
store.)

Windows 2003 is the current generation of Server OS.

Anyone can integrate SP2 into their current (prior) version of Windows XP.
I do not believe that changes the naming scheme in any way.

I was just asking cos it was a win xp sp2 box with version 2004 written on
it. I know there isnt a windows 2004. It was a perfectly real and normal
windows xp box. I suppose it is just microsoft including sp2 with it while
you could just slipstream a copy of Xp Pro Sp1 yourself.

Could be the packaging date or in a case which I have not seen here yet the Windows XP N version is dated with year.

I think you're mistaken. All XP Professional versions are 2002. Except for
the two service packs, there's only been a single release, and that's what
you have.

Hello Jake,

Thank you for using newsgroup and thanks for Stanley's notifications!

Also you may type "winver" in command line to check the current version
installed on your machine. As far as I know, there is no this version 2004
of Windows XP.

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao
