I'm trying to find out what version my computer uses (32
bit or 64 bit). I have tried going to run typing winver,
when I hit ok that screen goes away.

Any suggestions?

You can be assured that it is the 32 bit , as the 64 bit version is not for
home use, Also if you want to see info with winver go to run type cmd then
at the dos prompt type winver but that will not tell you 32 bit

You have a regular "retail" PC, right? It's 99.9999999% likely you have a 32-bit machine ; thus, you have a 32-bit Windows XP.
The 64-bit XP is only use on "mucho-mucho" expensive Itanium processors from Intel.

Winver shows you basic information, only. You may RUN "MSINFO32" and then look at display info for
System Model & System Type --- in the System Summary displayed on the right-hand frame.
Then post that back here.

Out of curiousity, why do you ask about 64-bit machines?

you are using winXP 32bit. IIRC XP 64bit isn't out yet and it also requires
different hardware.

see

We have shipped 2 versions of 64-bit Windows XP one for the Intel Itanium I
processor and the latest Version 2003 version for Intel Itanium II machines.

You have the 32-bit edition. Anyone who has the 64-bit version
knows it by the two large dents in his wallet--one for 64-bit
Windows, the other, even larger dent, for the special hardware
needed to run it.

you are using the moron version.

command prompt is where is run winver, not runline.

64 bit isnt out yet we all use 32 bit as home user.

Chris,

It was not long ago that people would pay thousands of dollars for a PC and
those prices fell to the hundreds we see today.
An Itanium II based workstation is around 3000 dollars today and prices will
continue to fall.
It is not a correct assumption to believe that they "only" exist in
Enterprise environments.
