XP upgrade vs. Full

Does it make a difference to my PC if I first install
98>XP upgrade...vs....XP Full version?
 
Full version?! You likely mean a grey-market OEM version, which is
emphatically *not* a full version. The only version of Windows XP you need
in upgrading from Windows 98 to XP is the Upgrade version.
However, if the computer is old enough to have been running Windows XP,
it is not necessarily a good candidate for Windows XP. Unless your system is
a P-III or better, with 256 MB of RAM or more, and has at least 2,000 MB of
free space on the hard disk, then don't upgrade to Windows XP. Leave it as
is, and move to Windows XP whenever you buy a new computer.

I believe Bob meant Windows 98 instead of Windows XP

I agree, but using the OEM version should only be used on new systems using
the latest hardware, as OEM versions are tied to the first computer they are
installed to and this will limit your use of the license when upgrading the
hardware.

Systems preinstalled with any version of Win 9x/Me should be or built
during that time period should only use the retail versions. Retail versions
can forever be reinstalled on new hardware.

I also completely agree with this.

Both retail versions have the same functionality, makes no difference. If
you have qualifying media, you do not need to install a qualifying version
to use the upgrade XP CD for a clean install.
