I loaded windows xp upgrade on a windows 98 machine. the
key expired after the 15 day period and now I can't use
the machine. It says the product key has exceeded the
number of times and I need to try another one or something
like that.

Can I go purchase a new XP pro from the store and use that
key? Or what do I got to do so I can logon?

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

If you purchased your own copy of Windows XP upgrade then you do not have a
problem.
You just activate by telephone.
HOWEVER the error message you are getting and your comment about having to
go and buy a new copy sounds a bit suspect.
If you are using someone else's CD then you do have to go out and buy your
own copy.
If this is a CD you purchased from someone else then firstly check to see if
it is genuine and you should also be assured by the seller that they are no
longer using it.
Identify genuine products
