My son just gave me his laptop that was loaded with 2K. It also had his
name/profile attached to the system files.

I upgraded over the 2K and all went well, but now I have not only his
profile in the documents and settings, but the usual ones such as
default user, and this is where all the new applications are going.

I can't find a way to either delete his name/profile or to move the info
from his profile into default user.

Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

I had that problem before and what i did was i created another use under my
name and copied the whole user data from the old user to the new user. I did
that on an xp box but i think its the same thing under w2k.

Thanks for your reply....

The OS that is loaded now is XP Pro.

Are you saying that you created another user and when that new name
appeared in documents and settings, you simply copied all the data from
the old user to the new?

Did you have to leave the old name there..I couldn't remove it.

What I see is that no matter, all the new apps keep going into the old
name. Did you change the path?

Exactly what did you copy...did you take the entire package from the old
name and copy to the new one?

Thanks again..

Either of these procedures will allow you to copy the files
from the old user account into a new user account.

How do I copy a user profile in Windows XP?

To copy a user profile

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile

You will have to use a third account which is a computer
administrator in order to copy the files. You can use the
built-in Administrator account or create a temporary admin
account that can be deleted once the procedure is completed.

Good luck
