I upgraded from Win 2000 to XP. The modem will not work,
although the ThinkPad says it is working properly. I
installed a new driver from IBM and it still will not
work.
What can I do? It worked fine before the upgrade.

Is the new driver XP compatible? Did IBM have anything at their website
that might be required before upgrading to XP. Place the XP CD in the
drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility,"
this may give a clue as to the source of the issue. Open Control Panel,
open System, go to the hardware tab, click Device Manager, look for any red
or yellow notices as they may be the source of the issue.

If none of this resolves it or leads to a resolution you may need to contact
IBM and/or check with the modem manufacturer about this issue.
