XP upgrade issue

Hi

Upgrading from 98se to XP home. Goes through first phase of install (conflict check, get current startup files etc) then we go to sys restart. Everytime it hangs on sys startup screen no warning box, nothing!!

Starting to wish I had brought that MAC i saw at PC world today.

Help would be muchly appreciated.

I have been trying to upgrade for over a week. I get
Fatal errors. The last one was at 0028: C1B2CFB9
Do you have any idea how I can get help for these errors?
