my brother just bought a new computer... top of the line machine... or at
least it could be... he doesn't have an internet connection and doesn't plan
on getting one... (am i the only one who thinks thats weird? thats like
having a telephone thats not hooked up; sure you can push the buttons, but
thats it)

he wants me to come over next week to help him out with some stuff... is
there anyway i can download the latest updates from Windows and save them on
a disk for him?... i have a cable connection and also running XP but
whenever i update its all automatic and i dont have a setup .exe to put on a
disk...

im NOT trying to make a profit on this just trying to help out my family.

thanks

It's not weird at all. Some people use PC's for work other than an
Internet "terminal". An Internet connection is not needed for most
work. I only ever have one PC with an Internet connection. The others
are secure development machines.

thats exactly why he has his... he is a small business owner and doesn't
have use for the internet... where as i use my machine almost purely for
recreation... he was tomato and i say Ghost Recon combat missions online...

If he will never connect to the Internet why does he need any updates?
There are mostly security related.

Hi Smed,

Though you can download and save the individual updates locally from Windows Update catalog, even better option is to download Windows XP SP2 which is a Cumulative update.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package is already available ( >260MB download)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A

----
Optionally: You can slipstream SP2 with XP and create an XP CD integrated with SP2. Then backup your personal data and do a clean install.Slipstreaming SP2 with XP requires the XP retail CD-ROM or the source files in the hard drive. Slipstreaming SP2 is explained here: http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7262

I used Autostreamer, which took ~30 min to copy/integrate the files/create the ISO. Should you need a visual aid on Clean installing XP, see the MVP site below: http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

There will be a disk available from Microsoft soon. They will even send it
to you free.
The link to get the disk is:

Even though you brother does not go to the internet, it would still be a
good idea to keep the software up-to-date. Someday he might realize that a
lot of business can also be conducted over the internet. Tax forms are
available, software updates are available, etc.

You're welcome Smed.
