XP updates destroyed the font display

The other night (Tuesday), XP did an automatic update as I went to shut
my computer down.

The next morning the screen resolution was smaller and what's worse all
the type appears very pale and unusually small. I can barely see the
black letters as I type this. All the menus are pale. Yet the software
fonts are fine.

Sorry, but it had to have been done by Microsoft.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

System restore back to a date when all was well.

Try reverting your system back to an earlier date using system restore before
the updates went on, then visit windows update and install the new updates
one by one to determine the one that may be problematic.

If it is an update and you find out which one may be causing your problem
you can then search Microsoft's website to see if its a known problem and if
theirs a resolution.

"it had to have been done by Microsoft."

It can be, but not necesarilly, your files could to be corrupted berfore
upgrading,
Well, it happens, its normal. But at this stage it could be very hard to
determine the exact origin of your problems, so, I would think on reinstall
the whole system again, but before, try searching in the Microsoft KB,
perhaps
your problem is already documented there.

hope this helps, Carlos
