Hi,

Everytime i switch my computer on, i am prompted that i
have new updates available for my operating system by
Windows with the yellow speach bubble appearing in the
task bar.

The trouble is, is it asks me to install the same updates
every day and doesnt stop.

It just keeps consolidating updates. I currently have
about 30 updates on the wizard, i click update.. It
downloads about 50 Megabytes of updates. Installs..
Everythings OK right? NO!!! At next reboot.. The same
updates.. 50 Megs of updates.. Oh and that new patch they
released yesterday!

It has been doing it for a while.

They are the same updates, because i have been writing
them down (the update codes) for a few days now. Any
ideas?

Thanks, Jay.

Jay,
Give it a try, but follow directions exactly. click
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en ,

* click 'Administrative options' > 'Windows Update Catalog'

* under heading 'See Also' click 'Windows Update'

* click 'Personalize Windows Update' > 'Click for Updates'

* under the heading 'Choose which categories and updates to display on
Windows Update' uncheck any updates that you don't want to install. Than
click 'Save Settings

I've been using the 'Personalize Windows Update' feature for a while now
and even with the Auto Update feature enabled for the last week I haven't
received any unwanted downloads so it must be working.
ps-before you start this process check your 'installation history' to see
what did install for you. Also check your 'Event Viewer' for any errors.
