XP Update Sucks (as usual)

I downloaded the new major upgrade to XP 2 days ago.
Since then, my computer starts much slower (about half
the old speed). The, when I went to check Microsoft for
updates to Windows XP, it tells me SORRY I can't do that
until I activate the Automatic Updating. I DON'T WANT
Automatic Updating, that usually causes even more
slowdowns to my computer. I specifically set the
computer to not have automatic updating so I can do it
manually every so often. Apparently Microsoft has again
decided for us that it knows what is best and if we don't
like it, we can't "play". This is the usual Bull---t
from Microsoft. DO NOT UPLOAD THE NEW XP UPGRADE UNTIL
MICROSOFT MAKES IT WORK RIGHT!!!!

Well it worked right for me, right out of the box. No bull about it. Your
system obviously was not up to scratch.

You may remove SP 2 by following these directions:

"How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875350&Product=winxp

and

"How to help protect your computer if you decide to remove Windows XP
Service Pack 2"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;878454&Product=winxp

Then follow the instructions here:

"What to Know Before You Download and Install Windows XP Service Pack 2"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

and install SP 2 again.

I had the same problem. After the start button appear it
took eons to load my symantic virus, my scanner software,
my spamkiller and my isp software. Not much. But if you
aware of what is hidden in startup registry items, you be
supprized what loaded up by your applications. It was
fine under sp1 but shows itself under sp2. I found out
that my scanner software loads up mutlple files. Why do I
need those files loaded up, if I not using it everyday.
So I ran autoruns.exe and unchecked the box for scanner
software and rebooted. And walla I'm back to my old speed.

You can download autoruns from
http://doc.sch130.nsc.ru/www.sysinternals.com/files/autoru
ns.zip

One nice software will show you what is in startup
similar to msconfig.exe. only alot more definitive. You
can uncheck a applications from startup a

Couldn't agree more. What really sucks is Windows Update v5, since i
won't work with my computer and Microsoft can't figure out why.

Hi I had three specific problems after installing SP2 -
including my wireless broadband connection failing until
I 'rescanned' using the wireless card utility. This had
to be done after every boot up. I also lost functionality
of my (valued) Psion Wavefinder digital radio. There were
also problems synchronising my PC with an atomic clock
using a longstanding reliable utility. Microsoft help
were useless. I restored my system to SP1 and everything
works like clockwork again. I shall stave off upgrading
for as long as I can - or at least until MS sort what
seem to me to be pretty basic issues
?Another case of MS using the genral public to beta test
their software?!!
