XP update = boot problem

I recently downloaded and installed a Windows update. My
computer now will not start and I get the blue screen with
the following error:

STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error
\SystemRoot\system32/ntdll.dll

any suggestions are greatly appreciated

if you have a retail xp cd boot to the cd and enter f8 and then r to repair
