It could be that something running in the background is causing a
"system failure" class error when Windows tries to close it. If the
default setting of "restart on failure" is in effect then you will get
the behaviour you describe.

Open Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings
button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section.

In the Startup and Recovery window click on the "automatically
restart" checkbox to clear it. Then click on Apply and OK as needed
to exit.

That should put an end to the restarts. However they may be replaced
by a "Blue Screen Of Death" STOP error message and the computer will
lock up. If that does happen then the contents of the STOP error
message, including the parameters, will be a direct clue as to what is
going on. Post the complete information from the STOP error message
back here if you need further advice or assistance.

Good luck

Try Ron Martell's advice.

Also, do you have Roxio/Nero installed. Older versions of these programs
cause this problem.

.
Yup, blue screen of death.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and messages about BIOS, caching,
and shadowing. Below is technical information:

*** STOP: 0X0000000A (0X000002cc, 0X000000FF,
0X00000000, 0X804E9D48)

I don't believe there have been any hardware/software
installations/removals.

Now what?...

Good luck
