45 Second shutdown is not unreasonable for XP. Numerous services,
applications and registry (Profile) saves are done at shutdown. McAfee
will affect the responsiveness of Windows XP. Likely there are some
'housekeeping" operations being done that accounts for the "Lag".

Make sure your McAfee software is updated to the latest release.

Your only other option is to uninstall McAfee and test the Shutdown time
to verify McAfee is responsible.

Thats a feature of the non-pro anti-virus program you selected to
install. Its for Average Joes. Are you an average Joe?

Once again we seem to have discovered that McAfee products have a "who
dropped the anchor?" effect on computer performance.

If you are looking for a good antivirus program that does not have a
large impact on the computer here are a couple of suggestions:

1. eTrust from http://my-etrust.com
Good program that is fast and reliable.

2. AVG (free) from http://www.grisoft.com
This is the one that I use.

Good luck
