i have windows 98se on my pc now and I tried to upgrade to
xp pro it does all the usual file checking, passes ok
installs some files and restarts the pc but when it gets
to the black windows screen with the logo it goes directly
to a blue screen and says "windows has been shut down to
prevent damage to your computer" and then it gives a
couple error lines as follows - 0x00000007b
(0xfcf6763c, 0c0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Any one with some help would be greatly appreciated.

This usually spells out bad RAM. Not always, and it may not be, but when we see this
most of the time it ends up being a bad RAM stick. If you have even a marginal RAM
stick, XP will find it's flaws, where Win98 will tolerate it. Do you have access to
different RAM? Or do you have more that one stick that you can pull/swap experiment
with?

no, I only have one ram stick (128mb) and I don't have any
other compatible ram I can use. is there any way to get xp
to bypass looking at the ram if that is the prob. or is
there anything else I could try??

Well,

It not a matter of getting by the ram. The PC wont run without ram. XP setup needs
to use the ram, it's a matter of using the ram that causes the problems. RAM is
relatively cheap anymore, I suggest getting at least another 128MB (this is where XP
starts to run good anyway) to test with.
