There is a limit in some BIOS and in the efault XP
installation around 128 or 137 Gig, epending on how you
define a Gig (i.e., 1 billion base ten vs 2 to the 30th
power that is near that, but larger, about 1.07 billion
base ten per Gig).

First, check with your PC maker or motherboard maker to be
sure that you do NOT have a BIOS limit. Probably not on a
modern PC, but check anyway to be sure. If no BIOS limit,
then enable 48-bit LBA in XP as described in the links in
some of the other replies. If a BIOS limit, look for a
newer BIOS from the PC maker or motherboard maker.

I had this problem just last week.

Use the format utility on the Maxtor disk that came with your hard drive.
Once you format with that, XP *will* recognize the true capacity.
