This started a few weeks ago, seeming to correspond to
install of XP security update. I have 2 machines that
exhibit this problem, one XP Pro and the other XP Home.
When the machines are booted, the System32 folder is
opened and displayed after all other boot routines are
finished. How can I shut this off?

Greetings --

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by
an incomplete program removal, in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys. It can also
be caused by an entry in these same keys that starts with a " / ."
