XP system turns itself on

After I shut the computer down, and the machine powers
down, it sometimes comes back on a while later. Computer
is Gateway 700XL, running XP Home. It does refuse to shut
down sometimes, but will usually respond to a second
attempt to shut down and turn off. But then, some time
later, it on on again. Anyone?

Is the system connected to an Ethernet LAN with a adapter that supports Wake
On LAN?

If so, then its possible that stray wakeup packets are being generated
somewhere, or that the WOL feature is not working properly.
