XP system restore now files gone

I had problems with my XP machine and could not get it to boot up. The only
option I had was to do an XP restore. Now my software and all my files
appear to be lost. Is there anyway to recover?

What was the *exact* method you used for what you refer to as an "XP
restore"?

If you mean you had to use the RECOVERY disk your computer vendor gave you
then yes, everything is GONE!
You might want to restore your data from your last backup... ;-)

A hint for the future - if all you have is a Recovery disk and not a proper
OS disk, then you might want to consider downloading and burning a Linux
Live CD. With this you can boot from the CD and rescue all your data to
external media, even if Windows won't start.
