In the last few days my system has become sluggish so I attempted to use
"system restore". The program went through the motions, but after reboot,
the message indicated that nothing had been changed. I have tried restore
points at two weeks, one week and one day with the identical results.

Hi

One or more of the System Restore files could have been corrupted - try
turning SR off/on - but I'm afraid that you will lose any existing
checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After
that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all
drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one
new SR checkpoint.

Have you tried the free Ad-aware and Spybot programs. Sluggish behavior
is often caused by all types of spyware installed on your computer making
reports.
Look them up on www.google.com

Hi,

A primer on System Restore:

Chances are good that you will not be able to use this without deleting the
existing restore points, so you may need to find another solution. A
sluggish system is often a sign of a malware infestation, you may want to
download, install, and run these utilities:

Adaware www.lavasoft.de
Spybot www.safer-networking.org
