I have just completed and upgrade of processor, additional memory, HDD and graphics card on Windows Xp home edition. Flashed the BIOS (and for the graphics) All was working ok until I tried to install the new graphics driver (after Direct X9) for my Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce FX5900XT Model GV-N59X128D.
The driver didnt appear to load properly and the old graphics driver had already been removed (big mistake...). Following a reboot I got the dreaded - A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer etc etc. Technical Information: *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8059230B, 0XF6CCEA64, 0X00000000)
I have been unable to restart in Safe or any other mode, XP repair asks for an admin password which I dont have. As a test I fitted a new drive, did a fresh install of XP, loaded the drivers (from the website this time!) and the system is stable and working ok. This would suggest the system there are no hardware issues and the driver is the problem
Ideally I would like to re-instate the old HDD as I don't want to have to load all the programs again. I can use ERD to view the old drive so I can get to all the directories and files - my question is: Is there a command line function to load an earlier System Restore point?
