XP "switch user" freezes

I have XP media center. Suddenly, about three months ago, I could not use
the "switch user". My wife and I both have administrative privileges. If we
use the "switch user", the computer freezes requiring a manual shutdown. If
we log off first, then the other person can log on. I have checked the
"run/services.msc and placed the "terminal services" and "fast switch user"
on automatic, and have appropriately checked the user accounts "switch user"
on the control panel.
