I have XP Home edition. When I login and type certain characters (example
"i") the system actually shows another character that I supposedly typed --
example "5"! So, I can not write anything since what I type is NOT what shows
on word or any other application! I have to re-booth the system and then
everything is OK!! It happens everytime. Any idea what to do? Thanks. Koz

You have a laptop, and numlock is on. Turn it off.

Thanks Steve and Ken. I will try that. Except if that is the case, why after
re-both it works? Regards, Koz

Find out what key combination toggles the numlock.
It could be that one of the keys is sticking.
