I have had several problems starting XP on my laptop.
Typically, I get
a message like the following.
Windows can not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt
System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys
Sometimes other files are listed. The machine then hangs,
often blurs
funny colors and I have to undock it and power down.
I have tried a few things I know but I am now stuck.
(1) I get the same error when starting in Safe Mode.
(2) I tried starting with the original XP Prof CD but
Windows Setup
also fails with a corrupted file.
(3) Per one of the Microsoft support pages
recommendations,
I tried starting with a Windows ME startup disk and typing
sys c: but I get a message that the sys file is not found
in the usual
places on the c drive. It then recommends trying Windows
Setup, so I
am stuck.
Any suggestions, I am all ears. Thanks.
