XP stalls on setup with 34 minutes remaining

My computer was having spontaneous restart issues recently so after removing most software and still having the problem I decided to use XP's OS CD to repair the installation. I have gotten all the files copied and have gotten through 3 of 5 post copy and restart, setup steps. I have restarted my computer three times now, each time setup restarts and freezes with 34 minutes remaining and what looks like 60-75% of the devices installed. Can someone tell me how to get around this problem.
 
This is not really of any help to you but I'm experiencing
very similar problems. I'm trying to upgrade XP home to XP
professional but the computer restarts when 34 minutes
remains of the installation, repeatedly. I have no idea
why.

I had tthe same problem when I was installing XP. I just kept trying to reinstall it. After the fifth time it took.
