SP2 for Windows XP is still under going development and beta testing.
Unless you are an authorized SP2 beta tester, and have access to the SP2
beta testing newsgroups, I would recommend not attempting to install
any beta version of SP2. Wait until the final version is released later
this year.

No need to be an authorized beta tester, it has been released in RC form, but definitely not for use by those unfamiliar with beta
testing software.

I have been using various builds of SP2 for a while now and they are for the
most part stable. Problem is, if you do install SP2 on your machine you need
to understand that there is no real support for it yet, so if it screws up
your system it's on your own head.

Many people report great success with SP2 RC1.
However if you have to ask the question it is probably not for you.
Since it is prerelease, there is no support of any kind from Microsoft
except a limited amount in the SP2 newsgroups, referenced in the link
below.
Any Beta/prerelease software is always at your own risk.
Do not install unless you are prepared to for a Clean Installation in
the unlikely event something goes wrong.
