Please help.
When XP SP 2 restarts, I get a screen that says "We
apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start
successfully. A recent hardware or software change might
have caused this." Then proceeds to allow me to boot in
the various safe modes. I booted in safe mode to see the
event veiwer. The restart seemed to be caused by event
ID=1074, Source = user32, user = NTAuthorty/system, minor
reason = 0x10. The process winlogon.exe has initiated a
restart. No title for the reason could be found.

Before installing SP 2, I ran a scan with the latest
updates using ETrust antivirus, Spy Sweeper, and Spybot.
Nothing turned up. The machine is an eMachines M6805 with
AMD 64 3000+. It had the latest XP SP1 updates.
thanks,
Karl

I got exactly the same on an Advent 3419A from PC World
which has the AMD 64-bit 3400 processor. I was able to
remove SP2 via Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs as I
was unable to restore back to a pre-upgrade checkpoint.
Not sure whether SP2 is fully compatible with the AMD 64-
bit processor.
