Hi folks,

I just deleted my HD with killdisk, reformatted it and re-installed XP.
I've only installed XP, Office, anti-virus/spy, and Adobe Acrobat
Reader.

What "routine maintenance" should I perform to keep my PC running as
fast as it does now (and it flies!!)?

Thanks!

Keep an eye on your startup programs & services as you install new
software. For every QuickTime or AIM program is an additional startup
entry that you probably don't need. I'd rather wait the additional two
seconds for QuickTime to load when I open a movie than have my system
reserving resources for it indefinitely.

After your hardware is installed, take a look in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run. You don't NEED
anything else here than is required by Windows and your hardware for
your computer to operate like it does now, so remove unnecessary
entries as the system begins to slow down after you install whatever
other software you choose to. AOL and Norton/Symantec services are the
worst.

Aside from that, your regular defrag will keep file access speedy.
