Im running a XP pro with SP2 and a 2000 machine on a home network (4 port
ethernet interface). Both PC's can see each other and conect to the internet,
BUT, when the 2000 machine is swiched on, the XP machine constantly reboots
(±15 times a night). If I leave the XP PC running unattended for a period of
time, it also reboots for no reason. When the 2000 PC is swiched OFF, the XP
PC reboots ± 2 per day. This only started happening when I installed SP2
Both PC's have McAfee antivirus installed but the XP machine has the McAfee
firewall as well.

Why is this happening to me?

Look at the event log to see if there is any info. The machine may be set
to reboot after a crash.

No use, there is no event log. It goes down as if you had cut the power,
there is no shut down process. The reboot is normal without any problems

If you have looked thru the event log and there is nothing associated with
the time the machine shuts down, it sounds more like hardware to me. But, if
the problems started with SP2, you can uninstall it.
