Is anyone working on a solution to this as MS & Intel dont seem to be warning
anyone of the problems???????

This seems to be a motherboard BIOS issue. Go to your MB manufacturer
website and see if they have a new BIOS for your board. I have 2 Dell PCs
with Prescott and it took SP2 just fine.

The solution is the responsibility of the motherboard manufacturer
to offer a BIOS update to resolve Prescott compatibility issues with
a supposedly Prescott compatible motherboard.

I still think MS should warm people about the possibility of a problem, as an
OEM support technician i have people on the phone who have totally killed
their system installing SP2 and lost valuable data, why would the system run
fine until SP2??? I think MS should address the problem instead of passing
the buck as normal, Its not going to be hard to post a warning is it?

Wayne,

Are the customers you are speaking with hitting the issue that is the topic
of this thread? If so which OEM do you work for? As a follow up why is
your company shipping systems in this unsupported state?

We already have provided details on the following web page which if followed
would ensure the end user has all hardware updates and has a backup.

As far as us doing more, we are currently working on it.
