Since installing the SP2 I am having problems with my
Canon MPC600f.
The MPservice no longer autostarts on bootup and then the
Canon Multipass status monitor wont connect to the device.
Anyone else had this or any ideas?
Thanks

Uninstall the software/drivers from Add/Remove Programs in the Control
Panel and then install the latest software/drivers avaiable from Canon.

did that - it was the first thing I tried - makes no
difference. Downloaded the latest files from the Canon
website.
Just seen another post in this forum about a different
canon device - looks like I am not alone.

First, try
Start-run
services.msc

Look for services that control cannon printer service and set to
automatic.

Also
Print Spooler needs to set to automatic
Reboot.

If not
Try an older xp driver if you have that.
Some older drivers work better than the new driver.

Thanks for the suggestions but I have already tried that -
the service in question is Mpservice.
This is whats behind the problem - after a reboot it wont
start - even though it is set to Automatic. I even set
the Recovery options to restart the service on failure.
I checked eventvwr and under Systte it shows the
MPservice reporting an 'invalid current state'???
It all used to work fine before SP2.

If I restart the MPservice manually then things appear ok
for 5-10 minutes - but then the Canon monitor app looses
the connection with the printer and if I check the
service it has terminated with the same error in eventvwr

Thanks

Here something else for you to try

Download the lastest driver from canon (keep them)
Now stop Mpservice services. Uninstall the printer.

Reboot is safe mode F8
Clean out anything in the registry under cannon. Delete the key or
value. Delete this file if still have it. Mpservice.exe

Reboot Normally.

If windows xp sp2 see this printer, let it install it.
If ask for your drivers. Try the original drivers first.
If not repeat steps and try the new driver.

Print spool does have to be set on automatic.

Tip if it works by using the old driver. Don’t use express install
on windows update website. It might inadvertently download a new
drive. Use custom instead.

I manage to get my canon printer MPC190 working after the SP2 upgrade + no
more "hang" when opening window explorer.

what i did. (logged) CHEERS!!!

1. Boot in Safe Mode
2. Remove all multipass software from add/remove programme
3. Delete the default folder for Canon Multipass (programs folder)
4. Open registry and search for "canon" & "multipass"
5. Delete all related registry highlighted for the above
6. Restart PC and start windows normally
7. Install Multipass software and Driver for Printer.
8. CHEERS!!! It Works....

*tinker* I guess the printer driver could not do a proper
migration/installation during the windows update to Service Pack 2. Need to
do a fresh install.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions but I tried the following but it made no
difference to my Canon MPC600f (multifunction printer, scanner, fax etc)
I contacted Canon and after a few days they got back and said it was
nothing to do with them and I should contact Microsoft.

Microsoft have come back to me with suggestions similar to yours but
doing a Selective startup. Will try it at the weekend and post back
here.
Cheers

edit the file MPNETIPC.INI and change the 127.0.0.2 in the file t
127.0.0.1, this will resolve this problem (per canon tech support).
The file should be in \windows\system3

i tried to help a friend install SP2 on his PC and his Canon F5
MultiPass had the same failure as described in this string for th
Canon MPC600f. Do you know whether the solution you obtained from Cano
is applicable to the F50? My friend needs his all-in-one everyday al
day, so he uninstalled SP2. i am hoping he can have it and hi
MultiPass too

I contacted Canon and they suggested I amend the
MPNETIPC.INI file.
But this file does NOT exist on my PC.

I double checked (selected the various options in
explorer to show hidden files and NOT hide extensions and
protected files etc). I even did a search on my XP drive
for the file - but it aint there!!

I am definitely using the latest driver they have on the
Canon Europe / UK website and the patch they have -
although these have not changed for some time.
I tried installing the F50 (USA version of the MPC600f)
driver from the Canon USA site but this would not detect
my MPC600F.

The issue is currently with Canon Europe......

When doing a search. You need to scroll down to more advanced
options. And check search hidden files & folders

I also have an F50 without the INI file. Canon told me the printe
cannot work without the file but it always has.

They told me to do the following:
Unistall the their software
remove the following keys from the registry:
canon;multipas;mpservice;cis1284
then reinstall

I am at work and cannot try it until I go home tonight. I alread
tried this but without the last two keys, so I am not convinced it wil
work

I just finished installing SP 2 and had same problem with my Cano
Multipass 80. Made the change to MPNETIPC.INI and now everything i
fine. So, this should work for the 50

Well this one is a huge headache for me, after trying all of the below
managed to get the error messages to stop.

three hours on the phone with Canon and Microsoft support could no
resolve my new issue.
My new problem is that my printer will only spit 2 blank page
everytime I try to print from the computer. Doesn't print at all whe
I try to test print a page. The printer works fine in copy mode.

I have uninstalled the SP2 software and now have tried, unsuccessfully
to remove and re-install Multpass Suite, re-load the drivers and do
system restore.

The only possible reason that I can think of is that my Colour In
Cartridge is almost empty and that the F20 will not work with XP if i
is low on Ink (??).

any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I have tried all the above including a complete rebuild and only puttin
MP Suite on after SP2. I also do not have MPNETIC on my system s
can't try that option. I'm still having problems - any mor
suggestions? I've e-mailed Canon so fingers crossed! Cheer

I have exactly the same problem with the MPC 400.

MS Support told me the cable must be defective ...
Well, I dont hold much hope of a solution from MS. I will try what
have found here and report back. Thanks for the pointers.

Yep, My 600 has had it as well. I've tried all the previous suggestions
but nothing's worked. I've uninstalled and re-installed...nothing.
will join the list of people emailing canon. If I get any success,
will post, and likewise I would love to hear from someone with a fix.

thanks

PROBLEM SOLVED ! PROBLEM SOLVED ! PROBLEM SOLVED !
MPC190 / MPC200 + XPSP2 : unable to explore myComputer + unable to
connect to printer or scan. I suppose it solves similar problems with
a lot of canon printers.

Edit C:\WINDOWS\system32\MpNetIpc.ini
Change 127.0.0.2 to 127.0.0.1
(because XP SP2 does not allow loopback on other address)
That'all... and it works !

Enjoy,
Jerome.

PROBLEM NOT SOLVED. PROBLEM NOT SOLVED. PROBLEM NOT SOLVED for the F5
and some other Multifunction models. This kind of problem could aris
again when Microsoft issues other WindowsXP patches. please all tel
Canon they must get all the Multifunction printers working with SP
installed and learn to cope more promptly in the future
