XP SP2 Hosing up system

I hope someone can help. My husband & I have both d/l'd the SP2 and I also
did so on my work computer. On all 3 computers it really hosed things up.
The computers were running so slow after d/ling that I uninstalled it at work
& home and my husband did also on his computer.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, any fixes for it? I mean when it
takes 5 minutes to get something to the printer or to open a program, I'd say
that was slow!
After uninstalling it everything went back to normal and ran super fast as
before the d/l.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I really would like to keep
the operating system up to date.

Thank you! All 3 computers are HPs and now I see what I have to do first.

You should also check HP's website for any updates.
