I installed XP SP2 on my comapq evoN1050v then after using my laptop for a
further few days after my laptop kept freezing up so i kept performing hard
reboots. I already had virus checkers and firewalls installed so there was no
risk of catching a virus.
Until a couple of days ago the laptop fails to reboot with any of the
options for safe modes. and keeps going into a loop.
I have had to restore my OS from the restore CD supplied when purchased.
Please recommend how i could have retrieved my documents including outlook
express, and personal folders. I interrupted the restore to see if accessing
c:\ would show me the folders but it didn't.
rebooting after reading it was wiser to do this for security reasons. I had
firwalls and virus checkers installed and followed aboonce more.
Start failed after installation.
Starting in Safe mode OK with agp440.sys listed as last driver.

Restore CDs usually "erases" the hard drive by restoring an image file of
the installed OS when the system left the factory. Unless it asked you to
do s "safe" restore, the documents are gone.
