XP SP2 "ASN1 unexpected end of data"

I'm trying to install XP SP2 from the 266MB file from
Windows download. When I run it it gives me this error at
the end "setup Error ASN1 unexpected end of data".

I can't install any updates from WIndows update as well.

I have afresh install of Windows XP SP1. Thank you for any
help with this.

If your plan is to install SP2, then no need to install any updates to
SP1. Get SP2 installed then do windows update for the post SP2 fixes.
Also don't ever install driver updates from there. Those should be
obtained from the device manufacturer's web site.

The download of the SP2 file might have been corrupted. Try it again or
get the free SP2 CD. It can be had for free from many computer type
stores and office supply places. Or order it from MS. It comes fast.
