I have been having issues with my internet speed with comcast broadband cable
and had them come out and check it out. The speeds and signals where fine
coming in. They said that there are issues with XP SP2 . I have been using a
D-Link router and tried to hookup direct to the ethernet connection in the
computer by bypassing the router and wasn't able to aquire a new IP Address,
it said something about limited access. They recomended uninstalling SP2 to
correct the problem. Has anyone heard of this problem and has there been any
fixes from microsoft to solve these issues?

Thanks,

Mike

what *exactly* was the error message when you bypassed the router? that
would be very helpful. Bypass the router, and go to Start, run, type CMD,
then type:

ipconfig /release
and when it's done, type
ipconfig /renew
which should get you a new IP address direct from the cable system.

I've installed SP2 on a number of machines using cable modems and routers,
and properly installed and configured, this setup is not a problem.

I have Comcast and have the same problem. I have one computer on the
router with SP2 and it works fine. My other computer, I have installed
SP2 three different times and can't get an IP renewal. I have tried
several different fixes, reset the router and modem and still nothing. I
once again did a system restore and will not try again until I am SURE
there is a fix and I know exactly what the fix is. I have searched
several different sites and Googled again and again and have yet to find
the solution.
