After spending 21 hours getting XP to install, I find
that my cd player won't play a cd without constantly
skipping, but it has a constant crackling noise in the
background. My cd burner will play just fine but it also
has the constant crackling in the background. I am about
ready to hit the Uninstall button, but figure as bad as
XP is it will probably reformate my har draive instead of
just reverting back to 98. It may have been unstable but
at least it worked. Does anyone knoe how to fix their
software? Any help greatly appreciated.

Several things :

* an upgrade is a bad move, back up your data, format and install from
the XP CD. (I'm talking from experience here, not just what I've read).

* did you upgrade your saoundcard drivers to XP specific ? If not do so
and re-post if any further problems.

* XP is MUCH more stable and user friendly than W98, but see the first
point.

Cheers,
Jerry
