I have received emails from someone claiming to have OEM cpies of various
versions of XP Home and Pro. The Pro price i recall was $50.00, too cheap.

Has anyone received these emails too and could they be legit? Or is that a
stupid question? Please advise, thanks.

It's a stupid question.

They are not legit.
Either delete the emails or forward them to (e-mail address removed)

Check the small print. Frequently it will say something like ...

"We have WinXP, MS Office <insert long list> ...and backup copies of
1,000's of other programs at bargin prices."

The clue is the magic words "backup copies". They are selling backup copies
of the CD supplied without a product licence - eg they are useless if you
don't already have a legal copy as they can't be activated. They are worth
about the cost of a CDR not $50.

Ted you really need to grow up!, there is no excuse for
that type of language, over someone asking a question, did
someone beat you when you were growing up??
This forum, is the correct place for asking questions.

if you don't know the answer, or are unwilling to assist,
be quiet.

In response to the original question, I've also received
these e-mails, certainly the price is too cheap, it raise
a big question, most of these are pirates, sending out
illegal copies of software, you may or may not be allowed
to get updates, or needed patches, also be advised these
vendors do not subscribe to the same morals as you and I,
and once having gotten your personal info, they will be
using it for other purposes, id theft, etc....I would
avoid them like death!

No they are not worth that much since you cant write to them.

In defence of Ted, he was not replying to the OP, but to Cerridwen.

However, I do agree that the language is uncalled for, reagardless of who it
was directed at.
