Hi All,

I have the following home network setup :

1 X Pentium4 running XP Pro - 192.168.1.164
1 x Pentium4 running XP Home - 192.168.1.82
1 X Pentium4 running Win 2K - 192.168.1.40
1 X Netgear 16 port Hub
1 X Netgear NB1300 ADSL Modem Router acting as DHCP
1 X HP Multi Function printer - 192.168.1.1

I have created a workgroup called "Jason" using the
networking wizard in XP and I manually configured the
workgroup on the win2k machine. My problem is all the
machines can ping the printer however they cant seem to
get a reply from each other, I get a " Request Time Ot ".

I'm not running any Firewall software or policies that
would restrict communication between machines and all
logged on users are part of the administrators group.

I have tried both static and dynamic ip's without luck?
Any suggestions on getting these guys to talk would be
appreciated.

Thanks....

Are you sure that XP's Internet Connection Firewall is turned off?
What did you tell the networking wizard when it asked you to select a
connection method? If you said "directly or through a network hub",
it would automatically enable the firewall. The correct selection
method for a router is "through a residential gateway".

Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group

I have checked the ICF on the XP machines and it is
turned off. I also disconnected the router from the
network and tried to ping nmachines on the network without
any luck.

Anything else I could try?

Thanks....

assuming you don't have firewall, what do you get if using net view
\\remoteip? if it is system error 5, this permission issue; if it is error
53, this is connection. or post the result of ipconfig /all here.

Ok I have done a net view and I get the error code
"6118 - List of servers for this group is not available"
After doing a bit of research everything I have read
points to a firwall issue, the symptoms point to a
firewall issue, however like I said XP's ICF is not turned
on?
Is there anyway way I can manually remove or turn off ICF
in XP other than the check box under the advance tab in
the network properties? Is there a reg setting I can add,
delete or change?

Thanks....
