when my kid tried to do this her computer got stuck. I
have no idea what to do. she called HP who she bought it
from also microsoft & no one could offer her any help. if
you reboot her computer it goes to the HP logo screen. I
can't get it to do anything else. If you push F8 it will
go to a black screen. I guess this is the ms dos page.
what if anything can be done to get the computer back to
where it was. she said she tried the xp disc but nothing
happened. she has a 80 gb with 60 gb used so she doesn't
want to lose her stuff if possible. i know if she was a
hacker the fbi could recover everything on the hard drive
so why can't I?
many thanks

Your statement:

"When my kid tried to do this (xp small business to xp pro install) her computer got stuck",
really does not make much sense. "Small Business" refers to a version of "Microsoft Office"
and is not an "operating system". Windows XP is an "operating system".
I can only guess that an attempt was made to install "Microsoft Office Small Business Edition"
on a HP computer running Windows XP Professional. If this is what you are trying to
communicate, then try the following:
