XP slow opening apps (1 minute+)

I am running Win XP Pro and Office 2000 (same problem
with Office XP Pro though) on a Compaq Evo. I upgraded
from Win 2K to XP.

Whenever I double-click on a Microsoft file, it takes at
least a minute to open. This also happens with a few
other types of files, but is consistent with MS files -
Word and Access particularly, but often Excel as well.
When this happens, Windows Explorer (not IE) shows in the
task manager as Not Responding.

Any ideas?

try a different user profile,try in safe mode,

if it occurs in a new user and in safe mode,then clean
install xp.
