Windows XP, Service Pack 1. When selecting,
start/shutdown, and then selecting either restart or
shutdown, the PC hangs. the dialogue boxes disappear, but
the pc does not shut down, justs sits. No programmes
running in the background, no usb devices connected. the
only way to turn it off is by using the power button on
the pc! Have looked through technet and tried a few
things that I dug out there, but still no joy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
