Every so often - like once in 15-20 shutdowns, I get this error window at
shutdown, it pops up and disappears so fast that I cannot see what it
says...

Anyone have any ideas how I can troubleshoot this annoyance?

I've looked for log files in Windows folders but cannot pin anything down...

Thanks, Sam

If it it's a BSOD [you don't elaborate] then turn of automatic restart.
[winkey+pause/break > advanced tab > startup and recovery > setting tab]

It's not a BSOD - as I indicated below it is an error window that pops up
and disappears so quickly that I cannot read the error.

I was hoping to view a log file but cannot find one that contains shut down
processes and errors.

Thanks

Have you looked in Control Panel > Administrative tools > Event Viewer
Applications (and also system) for event logs with errors or
warnings. If an error is found there, sometimes there are suggestions
for further debuggging. -=Art=- drartieatattd0tnet
