Hi,
Having major trouble with xp prof. It started a few month
ago, Windows stopped responding within the first 5 minutes
of startup. 2 month ago the whole system crashed and I
replaced severall components which I thought had
problems. Everything work fine until 1 month ago the
stopping started again. Virus and parasite scanner did
not came up with anything. When Windows stopped, nothing
worked any more including keyboard, mouse and the display
froze.
One time I could go to save mode and found out the
problem originated from MUP.sys. Disabeling made things
worse.
Yesterday Windows crashed again. It will not let me
repair it nor restoring. As last resort I reinstalled
Windows in a new directory, which works fine again.
Then I try to repair the old windows I get the error file
not found "asms" on servicepack 1 (which is in the CD
drive).

Question 1: Is it possible to import all the setting from
the previous Windows installation?
Question 2: Did anybody had the same problem like me?
Question 3: Why is Windows freezing without any error
message?
Question 4: Many programs need to be registred over the
internet, every time I reinstall windows I have to
contact all this suppliers, thats why I like to know if
there is an way to retrieve the old settings.

Many thanks for reading this letter, hoping there is
anybody with a simmilar problem and is smarter than me.
