After installing the update for microsoft service pack 2,
my pc would not restart. I clicked on restart and it
kept restarting and then shutting off over and over
again. I had to reload xp again - I am afraid to
instaff the updates on my computer but understand it is
important that I do. Has anyone had that probelm after
downloading

If you went through the drill of reinstalling XP all over again, then just
install SP2 before you do anything else. If it is successful then something
else caused the problem. If it's not then you may have some kind of hardware
issues that must be troubleshot and fixed.

Not sure if this is related, but an issue has been identified with some of
the newer Intel Pentium 4 processors not getting along well with SP2.
Apparently the solution is a BIOS update which would be provided by the
manufacturer of the motherboard. Info:

Again, this is only one possible issue. If your computer was 'pre-built'
and purchased from a comapny like Dell, HP/Compaq, Sony etc you should
contact them. Otherwise see if your hardware matches what is described in
the article I linked to.
