I have the automatic updates on and the other evening it started to download
and just stopped, I had nothing else open- it hasn't tried since, how often
do they try to automatically send this to you

If you already have SP2 installed, there is no new updates yet (no
downloads).
Automatic Update interval can be changed by right-clicking on "My
Computer", select "Properties", select the "Automatic Updates" tab.

I don't have SP2 yet- my automatic update time has been set for a while -
maybe it will try and download it again hopefully

As I understand the process, it is a start and stop background process which
might take several days to complete.

Yup, my icon suddenly reappeared late last night after disappearing
for a few days and the percentage downloaded started rising. I left it
on overnight and it was there ready to install this morning.

Installed it and seems to have gone in without a hitch, although the
firewall seeme to be turned on according to the Security Centre even
though I have Norton FIrewall 2003 installed and up to date. Turned
off the Windows firewall from the Security Centre and everything seems
to be operating as I would expect.

Mine has been at 0% for several days now- don't normally leave my computer
on very much since thunderstorms happen rather often in my area
and I am not home during the day - it is always on at the time I have the
automatic update set for though - maybe it will try again in several days
