My computer freezes during installation of Service Pack
1. Even after Formatting the Hard Drive. No problem with
any other updates. Any suggestions on this issue would be
appreciated.

If you have a firewall activated or some sort of
protection on your registry , that could be it. Do you
download and install at once ? In that case , you could
try saving the update on C: or a CD , then running it
offline or even in safe mode to avoid conflicts.
 
Hopefully you are not suggesting disabling the firewall.
Running a computer connected to the internet without a firewall should
NEVER be done.

Nope. I just wanted to point out that a firewall ,
sometimes , blocks online installations if it's not right
configured.
