XP service pac 2 corrupted outlook express

The content and the appearance of outlook express was redically changed after
installing the XP service pac 2 upgrade - I lost most of my e-mail and my
settings use to present outlook express in the same manner as shown in W98.
What can I do to fix this
 
If Outlook Express is run via Programs/Outlook Express instead of clicking on
the Mail button the all e-mail received previous to the XP ser pac 2 upgrade
is displayed properly. I can not recreate the problem - yet. What aother
surprises does this upgrade hold for me?
