I am having problems using the Search function on the start menu in Win XP.
Everytime I try to search for files on my local drive I get an error because
I don't have an active internet connection. Why would I need to connect to
the internet to search for files on my local drive

.
Start/Search/Files and Folders - new check what the
block that states "Look in ...." has listed. Click the
down arrow so it states your C:\ drive and have fun.

-----Original Message-----A better solution is AgentRansack; it's free at www.agentransack.com and it's a
search engine that actually works the way it should unlike the native XP one.
There's also now a shareware version, FileLocatorPro, with many more useful
features.

I have tried the Look in... C:\ drive selection and still get the same
error.
