No your copy of XP is on a hidden partition of your
harddrive(A portion that is not used at all by the
computer)My H?P I access it by pumping the F10 key at
start-up,take me to the recovery counsel, from there I can
choose destructive(put back like the day I bought it
new),or nondestructive(resets only XP features,leaves my
files, folders in tact)this one will reset damanged xp
components, and reset everything back, also gets rid of all
updates and service packs,be sure to back everything up B-
4 you do this.I use the destructive one every 6
months, see I have 3 teens that use this and they clutter
it up with junk,I backup important things then run the
destructive recovery(WOW it's like brand new)all the
settings back(I also use a different yahoo e-mail and get
free 6 months of Norton because it came preloaded, just
use a different e-mail 6 more month free)Then I load the
inportant things from my disc to my screen name, walla i'm
going again.Love this feature, because there's no disc to
go looking for in the closet and it don't get scratched
up,use it and have fun.

No of course not! You really think MS would risk losing billions of dollars
by making XP available for download?! You must use whatever restore
mechanism the laptop manufacturer saw fit to provide you with. To learn what
that is, simply RTFM.

Mike,

Try this before restoring:

Please see the following instructions.

Good Luck!

If you value your computer *AT ALL* you will *NOT* follow the 'advice' given
by the second link. It is questionable at best and, at worst, could
potentially cause data loss - or worse.
